Affordable Art Fair Battersea Autumn Battersea Park, 20 – 23 October 2022

• Affordable Art Fair is back in London’s Battersea Park this October with 1,000s of stunning contemporary artworks to add a touch of joy to your home, from £50 - £7,500. Find your perfect piece from an array of original painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking and more.

• With only weeks to go before the unmissable Autumn edition, an exciting new line-up of artists, collections and displays has been announced alongside a roster of 113 leading galleries from the UK and all over the world:

• First up is the next generation of big names with the Recent Graduates showcase: A Coalescence of Daydreams. Spotlighting up-and-coming talent from art schools across the UK, the exhibition explores notions of home; and what it means to be confined to / or separated from home in uncertain times, curated by Nephertiti Oboshie Schandorf.

• Also announced today, Moving Images is a brand-new initiative for the fair launched by Fair Director, Hugo Barclay and curated by LiveArt.io, showcasing exciting digital art and NFTs from four innovative artists, with all available to buy. Moving Images will simplify the process of owning an NFT and show how you can collect and curate them in your own home.

• More highlights include: Affordable Art Fair’s Black Excellence display, celebrating Black History Month, a selection of works by Royal Academicians in The Bridgeman Folio, curated finds under £500 and augmented reality dance performances and creative activities presented by Dorsett Hospitality International and The Collective.

• Art For Cure are announced as Charity Partner for Affordable Art Fair Battersea, raising critical funds for leading breast cancer research and support services through the sale of art and sculpture. Visitors can support Art For Cure with a donation or visit their stand at the fair to find out more.

JUST ANNOUNCED 

RECENT GRADUATES: A COALESCENCE OF DAYDREAMS

Continuing its tradition for supporting emerging artists and platforming the next generation, Affordable Art Fair has teamed up with Nephertiti Oboshie Schandorf, (Peckham Platform, Art on the Underground, Artichoke), to co-curate her standout selection of the best and brightest artistic talent to emerge from UK art schools this year, together with Fair Director Hugo Barclay.

This year the exhibition, A Coalescence of Daydreams, brings together exciting new works from some of the best art school graduates of 2022 from across the UK. The exhibition explores a shared experience of what it means to be confined to or separated from home in uncertain times. Each of the selected artists brings their own unique perspective on the idea of home using themes including humour, wit, and longing. 

Nephertiti says: “Each artist has excelled during some of the most challenging years in recent memory and the quality of the work is testament to their creativity, dedication and resilience.”

Artists include:

• Lucy Hutchings, Leeds Art University, BA (Hons) Fine Art, 2022. Born in Hong Kong in 2001, Lucy Hutchings grew up in Asia before moving to Leeds in 2019. Her figurative practice developed with the obscurity of Covid-19 and reflects the subconscious change of emotions and lifestyle throughout the pandemic. Post pandemic, Lucy displays the celebratory feeling of fun and freedom through comedic oil paintings of nude figures intoxicated on red wine at different scenes of a dinner party.

• Dami Ayo-Vaughan, Central Saint Martins, UAL; MA Contemporary Photography; Practices and Philosophies, 2022. Damilola Ayo-Vaughan is a London-based Nigerian artist, writer, and researcher. Dami's practice explores memory, emotions and psychotherapy through a personal and communal lens. He examines his inner tensions with distance and displacement from home and the personal and collective memory built from having multiple fractions of home.

• Prab Naththarampatha, The Glasgow School of Art, Master of Fine Arts, 2022. Prab Naththarampatha (Sri Lankan-Australian, born 1978) is a Glasgow, Scotland- based visual artist. Growing up in rural Sri Lanka, his childhood was rooted in Theravada Buddhist teachings and practices. Since moving to Australia in the late 1990s, he has wondered about calling Sri Lanka or Australia home.

• Amanda Seibœk, Glasgow School of Art, Painting & Printmaking School of Fine Art, 2022. Amanda Seibæk is a painter and printmaker. Her practice centres on themes inspired by scientific explanations of natural phenomena. Seibæk is inspired by Maggie Nelson’s auto-theoretical works, connecting multiple fields of knowledge, never deeming any irrelevant for her explorations. Materially, she connects the mediums

• Ella West, Slade School of Art, MA Fine Art Media and Contemporary Art Theory, 2022. Ella West is a London-based artist working within the mediums of sculpture, video, and printmaking, she combines an array of materials, including clay, paper, steel and latex to form sculptural prints and animated installations. Through this, her work engages with subjects such as failure, family, collaboration, the relation

• Ziyan Liu, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London; MA Contemporary Photography; Practices and Philosophies, 2022. Technology and self-identity are the main subjects of Ziyan's practice. Her works attempt to expand the body through electronic media. At present, she sets out to analyse multi-dimensional identities of herself through a series of digital objects. Ziyan identifies herself as a Chinese artist growing up in a context of cultural impact.

• Connie Stewart, Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, BA (Hons) Contemporary Art Practice, 2022. Connie is a Scotland based artist working across disciplines and technologies. Their work explores a range of themes and topics relevant in our contemporary climate from surveillance, censorship to politics, nostalgia and cultural identity.

  MOVING IMAGES

  A brand-new initiative for the fair launched by Fair Director, Hugo Barclay and curated by LiveArt, the Web3 platform transforming the art market, Moving Images will showcase exciting new work from four leading digital artists. With the ever-increasing popularity of digital artforms and NFTs, now’s the time to learn more about investing in these mediums. Our Moving Images showcase, in partnership with LiveArt, will simplify the process of owning your own digital artwork, as we show how the medium can be collected and curated in the home. So, if you’re looking to add a digital artwork to your collection, this is the perfect place to start.

  Some of the leading artists featuring in Moving Images include Bob Bicknell-Knight, Afroscope and Karina Abramova.

Affordable Art Fair presents a roster of galleries hailing from 15 countries around the globe. From Canada to France, Mexico to South Africa, visitors are in for a diverse selection of international art. The line-up includes ARTCODE, from Mexico, ArtBlue Studio from Singapore, Le Follow 13 from Paris, Wolf & Nomad from Miami and many more. With 1,000s of artists’ works spanning painting, mixed media, sculpture and photography, visitors will be spoilt for choice.

Look out for big name artists including Kevin Champeny (Steidel Contemporary), whose large-scale sculptural collages are a viral hit with collectors including singer and rapper Drake, street art sensation Mr Brainwash, (Clarendon Fine Art) and prints by Qu Leilei: a founding member of the avant-garde ‘Stars Group’ in China in the late 1970s alongside Ai Weiwei, at China Impressions’ stand.

New exhibitors set to delight include, Arta, a Hong Kong based gallery showcasing leading Chinese and Hong Kong artists. Look out for the intricate ink drawn maps of Eric Fok, which fuse ancient map-making techniques with modern landscapes, to explore cities’ changing urban development and post-colonial phenomena. London-based S & P Gallery specialise in fine art photography and will be showcasing stunning high-concept black and white portraits by self-taught African American photographer Gregory Prescott, whilst Coe Gallery; the UK’s first Aboriginal-owned art gallery founded earlier this year by artist Jasmine Coe presents works by Wiradjuri artist Hannah Lange and Gurindji Waanyi artist Sarrita King, both nominated for The National Capital Art Prize 2022. Joining the fair all the way from Tokyo, The Tolman Collection will be showcasing contemporary Japanese works on paper from the likes of Noriko Saito, Ryo Nishimura, Yoshikatsu Tamekane and many more.

CELEBRATING BLACK EXCELLENCE

Marking Black History Month here in the UK, Affordable Art Fair celebrates brilliant black and ethnic minority artists from their community of galleries with a display of curated works. Look out for the stunning photography of African American artist Gregory Prescott (S & P Gallery) the joyful paintings of Natasha Awuku (The Art Hound) and the colourful paintings of Thembalethu Manqunyana (Thompson Gallery) amongst many others.

FINDS UNDER £500

Find the very best affordable, contemporary art in curated displays of works under £500, supported by Lead Partner JM Finn. Visitors can be the first to snap up an original piece at an affordable price with other pieces within this range at the fair highlighted on the official maps.

THE BRIDGEMAN FOLIO

Discover limited edition prints by leading artists and Royal Academicians including Paul Huxley, Eileen Cooper and Cathy Pilkington in this display of works from The Bridgeman Folio. Produced by Bridgeman Images, sponsors of Affordable Art Fair’s Curatorial Excellence Award. All works in the display are available for sale (£750 unframed / £1,000 framed).

AUGMENTED REALITY DIGITAL ART PERFORMANCE: THE WAY WE DANCE

Making its UK debut at the Battersea Fair, The Way We Dance Augmented Reality experience features two virtual dance performances – AWAKE and PROGRESS – staged by a group of innovative artists and dancers under the guidance of choreographer Yuh Egami, Ballet Master at the Hong Kong Ballet. Inspired by the perseverance of the creative community through the pandemic, the dance celebrates the precious opportunity we have to be able to create and travel again. Created in partnership with Dorsett Hotels and The Collective, the dance performances can be experienced and brought to life via an iPad and special headset at the Affordable Art Fair.

Created in partnership with Dorsett Hotels and The Collective, The Way We Dance has travelled around the world to Affordable Art Fairs in Hong Kong and Melbourne and will be in Singapore in November.

ART AFTER DARK

Join the party on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 October for special late-night events – open until 9pm with all the highlights of the fair plus special entertainment, free drinks, and live DJs.

FAMILY FUN

Plus, for avid art adventurers aged 7 – 12 years old, why not try a fun-filled tour of the fair from The Little Grand Tour - led by Art History wizards! About Art for Cure, Fair Charity

Art For Cure raise money for leading breast cancer research and support services through the sale of art and sculpture. Belinda Gray founded the charity in 2014, following her own unexpected diagnosis of breast cancer. Today they have raised over £1million through their exhibition programme and given grants to a diverse range of projects and research. They will be presenting a small exhibition of works at the fair, with profits from artworks sold going to support their grant-giving work across the UK, helping thousands of women facing a breast cancer diagnosis.
