For ages 3-8

When Danny, the fastest runner at his school, suffers a terrible accident, he thinks his dream of winning an Olympic Gold Medal is over. No longer able to race against his friends, Danny almost loses all hope. Then one day he discovers something amazing in the old stone building at the end of his Grandma’s garden that will change his life forever.

Inspired by the remarkable achievements of disabled athletes competing at the Paralympics, Danny’s Dream is a magical story about triumph in the face of adversity and never giving up. Danny’s Dream is a perfect bedtime story for ages 3-8 years old to discover that dreams come true, although sometimes in the most unexpected ways.

Illustrated by Ian Parker, a mouth painter with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA), the book includes over 35 beautiful paintings and drawings the artist created using a pencil and brush in his mouth, an extraordinary talent he developed as a child, born without the use of his hands.

This is the first time a disabled artist has been involved in creating a children’s book that features a disabled child as the central character.

About the Illustrator:

Ian Parker was born in Crawley, West Sussex with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC), a condition that rendered him with permanently unusable limbs. One of his passions in life is painting and drawing and to do this he holds a paintbrush or pencil in his mouth. From
an early age he took every opportunity
to create artwork and eventually went on to attain a degree in Fine Art. Since 1993 he has been an artist with the MFPA – producing designs for a variety of products including Christmas Cards and Calendars.  Ian’s work covers a wide range of images but he particularly enjoys painting landscapes and is always looking for new, creative challenges.

The summer of 2016 presented just such a challenge, when he was invited to illustrate this MFPA children’s book. This was something he had never done before and although adept with a paintbrush, Ian found the process of illustrating for a book both an artistically stimulating and humbling experience.

About the Writer:

Victor Margiotta spent a long and successful career in publicity, working as a Director with some of the world’s biggest advertising agencies.   Following his departure from the advertising industry, Victor became involved with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) where for many years his public relations and marketing expertise has helped to raise awareness of the organisation and given valuable support to the artists.

About the MFPA:

Formed in 1957, the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists partnership is part of an international self-help association of artists (AMFPA) who paint without the use of their hands. There are currently 33 British artists and almost 800 artists from over 80 countries worldwide.

The MFPA is a partnership of disabled artists run by the artists themselves. The partnership reproduces its artists’ original paintings as unique greeting cards, calendars and a wide range of other products, which brings vital, financial security to its artists.
